Lake Placid summer events now underway

Lake Placid

Lake Placid is a village known for hosting 2 Winter Olympics and considered a premier winter destination. It’s actually busier in summertime. We offer a world of activity in the warmer months…..things to do and see.

Currently, the Lake Placid Horse Show is underway (through July 2), followed by the I Love NY Horse Show (July 4-9). This event has been coming to our town since the mid-1970s. Some of the best riders and horses in the world make the yearly trek to the North Elba Show Grounds, opposite the ski jumps. Sit in the bleachers and enjoy the competition. There’s a venue tour given every day.

Equestrian competitions in Lake Placid are a summer staple

On July 4, with the assistance of WSLP 93.3 FM, we will Set the Night to Music with a brilliant fireworks display starting around 9:45. That will be preceded by Lake Placid’s traditional Independence Day parade down Main St. It begins at the Olympic Center at 5 PM and concludes at the bottom of Saranac Avenue. An added feature of this year’s parade will be the addition of local athletes Lowell Bailey (biathlon), Elana Meyers Taylor and Jamie Greubel Poser (both bobsled drivers). They will meet the public in Mid’s Park on Main Street upon the parade’s conclusion. All 3 are recent Olympians and winners of World Championship medals this past season.

The annual I Love BBQ and Music Festival returns for the 12th time July 7-9. It’ll be held on the Olympic speed skating oval where Eric Heiden won 5 Olympic gold medals in 1980. All money raised benefits the Shipman Youth Center, just down the street from the festival site.

If you’re the active type, we suggest a variety of activities. They include fishing, hiking, biking, golf at our Whiteface Club sister property, tennis and boating. If you want to cool off with a swim, we offer a private beach on Mirror Lake along with indoor and outdoor pools.

Looking for an easy walk or jog, just step outside the inn. Just turn in either direction, and enjoy the 3-miles around Mirror Lake. This will bring you through Main Street and return you to the hotel.

This is all very typical of how Lake Placid blends the action for our visitors. We hope you’ll return to this page as we extend this schedule through the summer season.
