Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa Soars to New Heights in the Culinary World

The View restaurant receives first AAA Four Diamond Award

Lake Placid, NY (May 28, 2008) -- Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa is pleased to announce that Chef Paul Sorgule is taking the Inn's restaurant, The View, to new heights and new locations in the culinary world.

Chef Sorgule and his team recently returned from New York City where they participated in Toast of the Town, a premier wine and restaurant tasting event at Lincoln Center. At Toast of the Town, Chef Sorgule and his team prepared and served over 1,200 dishes of seared Ahi tuna to a discerning group of food and wine enthusiasts. The View was the only restaurant from outside the city participating in the event. Being part of an event of this caliber, with some of the finest restaurants in New York City such as The Blue Water Grill, Aleo and Fleur de Sel was a thrill, and the response to our food was fantastic," says Sorgule.

Sorgule and his team will return to New York City on November 5 to present a seven-course meal at the prestigious James Beard House. James Beard House opens its doors to visiting chefs after a rigorous review by a committee of food and wine professionals. Chefs that are invited to cook have proven to be of noteworthy talent as evidenced by press reviews, book authorship, awards in the industry and positive word of mouth. This is a culmination of my efforts and vision throughout my career and I am sincerely honored with this invitation to cook," said Chef Sorgule. My goal for this event," says Chef Sorgule, "is to have my guests so thoroughly enjoy their food and wine experience at James Beard House that they will want to come and visit us at the Mirror Lake Inn."

Perhaps the biggest validation of Chef Sorgule's accomplishments will come June 5, when he, along with Dining Room Manager Katie Welch and their team at The View, will formally accept their first AAA Four Diamond restaurant award for 2008. The Mirror Lake Inn will also be presented with their 24th consecutive AAA Four Diamond hotel award.


The Toast of the Town, James Beard invitation and AAA Four Diamond award are among the many exciting culinary highlights for Chef Sorgule and The View this year. After the success of this year's festival, the Mirror Lake Inn will be hosting its 4th annual Adirondack Festival of Food and Wine March 26-29, 2009. This popular epicurean event fills the inn with food and wine enthusiasts from around the country. This summer, guests at The View can look forward to special themed wine dinners and an ever-changing menu featuring the freshest and finest ingredients.

In January 2008, the resort was named to Conde Nast Travelers Gold List as one of the "World's Best Places to Stay," and as one of the World's Best Hotels by Travel & Leisure. The resort was chosen as one of 150 hotels in the Northern Hemisphere to be named to National Geographic Traveler's 2008 "Stay List," in which hotels are recognized for their conscientious approach to resort living and their relationship with the community and the environment. For eight consecutive years, the resort was awarded Wine Spectator's Dining Guide Award of Excellence, and in 2006, it won the Award of Distinction in Wine Enthusiast's restaurant awards issue.
