Joy to the Children Benefit at the Mirror Lake Inn
The event for local children reaches its twenty-first yearLAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The 21st Annual Joy to the Children Benefit will be, once again, kicking off the holiday season at the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa. This gala event, sponsored by Ed and Lisa Weibrecht, will be Dec. 6 from 6 – 9 p.m.
What started as an open house at the Inn in 1986 has now become a true highlight of the Lake Placid holiday season. The Mirror Lake Inn’s superb holiday decorations, including 100,000 twinkling lights, as well as delectable foods have drawn roughly 500 guests to the event each year. The benefit continues to thrive due to the generosity of the Weibrechts.
“We live in a very sports oriented town so bringing arts programs to the community is a very important concern for Ed and myself,” commented Lisa Weibrecht, proprietor of the Mirror Lake Inn. “With the programs funded by the Joy to the Children event, local children are now being introduced to things they may not have known otherwise.”
For the past 21 years, the Weibrechts have donated the entire party to the Lake Placid Center for the Arts (LPCA). Over the past two decades the event has raised over $1.2 million, funding over 200 programs for more than 34,000 individuals throughout the Adirondack region.
“The Joy to the Children Benefit has been the cornerstone of all of the LPCA children's programs for the last 21 years,” commented Nadine Duhaime, LPCA executive director. “Lisa Weibrecht started this fundraiser to specifically bring more cultural opportunities to the youth in our area. Now, the Benefit not only supports all of the LPCA arts outreach programs for children, but has enabled LPCA to build a stronger base of additional supporters and foundations who share the Weibrecht’s commitment to the young people in our region.”
Tickets are available by contacting LPCA at 518-523-2512 and cost $95 per person if purchased before December 3; they will be available at the door for $130 per person. The Inn has extended a special overnight package for those attending the event; accommodations in a Noonmark room and breakfast at the View for two people for a cost of $160. For more information on the overnight package please call 518-523-2544.
