For more than 60 years, the Mirror Lake Inn has been committed to maintaining a high level of environmental stewardship. We strive to integrate environmentally sound growth concepts in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint, while maintaining the level of comfort and luxury our guests expect.

Rather than developing the lakefront portion of our property, we have planted trees and plants indigenous to the Adirondacks in an effort to preserve, not only our spectacular views of Mirror Lake, but the fragile ecosystems above and below its clear waters. In the last twenty five years we have limited overall development and stayed well below our allowed capacity to create a more genteel environment for our guests and to reduce our environmental impact.

We have an award-winning recycling center; we use our own flower cuttings for the inn's floral arrangements, at one time maintained a vegetable garden and still maintain an herb garden. We were proud when a past executive director of the Adirondack Park Agency (one of the most restrictive zoning/regulatory agencies in the world) stated that the Mirror Lake Inn was a model for the proper kind of development in the Adirondacks.

Our business model has always been to improve our profit picture by increasing the level of the quality of our service and facilities rather than increasing the number of our sleeping facilities. While others added rooms, we have always striven to add quality.

We are owner operated and this is our home. Over the years we have done these things because we felt they were the right and responsible things to do.

Help us continue to be green.

Our recycling center is located in the parking lot behind the main building. We can and will recycle for our guests! Any empty items left in rooms will be recycled. We have a recycling center in Lake Placid and we make a special run daily.

The Mirror Lake Inn is committed and proud to conserve our country's natural resources. To help us please:

Hang towels up if you wish to reuse them.
Leave towels on the bathroom floor if you would like fresh ones.

In addition to paper towels, we offer cloth towels as an option for drying hands in our public restrooms.

We have been invited to speak at several recycling workshops on behalf of the Adirondack North Country Association to assist area businesses with their recycling efforts.
