LAKE PLACID – The sports of rugby and lacrosse are set to bring their annual tournaments to the Adirondack region.
Four teams started the rugby affair in Saranac Lake in 1974, and each year it doubled until reaching 100 teams. The expansion essentially forced games to be played in Lake Placid as the host community ran out of fields. Seven pitches are used in Saranac Lake and six in Lake Placid.
“The trips we do here bring them back and we get long term relationships. That’s the passion of what I do,” remarked Adirondack guide Gary Marchuk. “It’s better than the monetary reward. My payback is to be outside and introduce people to this.”
And this is the expanse of the six million acre Adirondack Park, which Mirror Lake Inn guests can access, literally, within minutes of the resort and spa.
This is the grand-daddy of them all. Ironman Lake Placid.
