LAKE PLACID – In contrast to the blues of summer and whites of winter, fall foliage in the Adirondacks offers a palette colors and a menu of festivals.
Cool nights and warm days seem to trip the switch, as each day we are seeing more changeover to the red, yellow and orange of the season, which also means the festivals are getting closer by the day.
The final major race of the summer/fall season is set for Saturday, Sept. 10, with the annual running of the Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon and 10K (6.2 miles) Race.
LAKE PLACID – Championship golf returned last week in Lake Placid.
The New York State Senior Women and Super Senior Women Amateur Golf Championships, featuring a field of 112 players, were held at the Whiteface Club and Resort for the 14th time in the venue’s illustrious history.
The events, on August 23-24, were held in purely manicured tournament conditions over the tree-lined course that played to a par of 73 (members par 71) for the two tournaments that were held concurrently. The fifth and 15th holes, usually par fours, were converted to par fives by the New York State Golf Association which administered the competition.
