Weather about to change in the Adirondacks with Christmas just 3 weeks away12/04/2012 It's 55 degrees, partly sunny and beautiful this afternoon. Not exactly what we were hoping for, especially after all the nice snow that hit us after Thanksgiving. But "help" is on the way. This is the last day of spring break, and our friends in Canada are going to help us revert. There is ample snowpack north of the border, and it has been prevented from dropping into the States due to a blocking ridge. FINALLY....that ridge will relent starting Wednesday (Dec. 5) and winter weather and accompanying temperatures will make their way back into the U.S.
After skiing or holiday village strolling, you must take a break at The Cottage (ORDA/Dave Schmidt Photo) We are expecting temps to drop into the teens and 20s with some snow accumulation. Nevertheless, good snowmaking conditions will return shortly on Whiteface Mountain; the Olympic speed skating oval will comeback to life after opening last weekend; and maybe we can do some cross country skiing pretty soon. The combined bobsled, luge and skeleton track on Mount Van Hoevenberg remained unphased the past few days, given its location in the shade, refrigeration system and the fact that 99 % of it is covered from the elements. Winter will return just in time for the Holiday Village Stroll Dec. 7-9 in Lake Placid.
