Terri Fehlner, our LMT and Esthetician, talks winter skin care
There
is nothing like snowboarding, skiing, or ice skating in Lake Placid with family
and friends! Many hours will be spent outdoors playing in the snow and indoors
sitting by a crackling fire. Before
you head out, don't forget to adjust your skin care routine.
Extreme
dryness on the face and body may be the effect of low humidity from the dry
winter air and the heat from your car and home.
Avoid
taking long hot baths and using hot water to wash your face and body. This will
dry out the skin more, leaving you itchy and
irritated.
Use a thick emollient moisturizer on slightly damp skin to trap in moisture,
like our Phytomer Rich Thermal-Protective Cream for the face, and our rich Coco
Butter Body Cream from Uspa.
Protect
your hands with warm gloves from the wind and dry air outdoors and use rubber
gloves indoors for washing dishes to household chores. When you visit us at the
Spa for your manicure and/or pedicure, add on a paraffin treatment and reap the
benefits. The heat permeates deep into the muscles and soothes aching joints
leaving the hands super hydrated.
Apply hand cream often and leave one on your
night stand to reapply before bedtime. Phytomer has a Moisturizing Hand Cream
that stays on even after several washings and Skinceutical has a rich Hydra Balm
perfect for something a little heavier for the hands and feet.
Avoid
licking the lips which will leave them chapped. Carry a moisturizing lipstick
or our Mirror Lake Inn lip balm with you always and make sure to reapply lip
balm before going to bed.
The
skin's protective hydrolipid barrier weakens at night causing transepidermal
water loss (TEWL) along with a decrease in oil production. Night time is ideal
to correct and repair the skin, so go ahead and replenish your lipid barrier
with one of our many Phytomer or Skinceutical products. If you're not sure which
one you should be using, email me at tfehlner@mirrorlakeinn.com or leave me a
message. I would love to help you out!
Many
people associate applying sunscreen and keeping hydrated with hot summer days.
However in the winter months, when the sun reflects off the snow, it bounces 80%
of it's rays back to you. This is very similar to a day at the beach.

Rush this man to the MLI Spa....immediately!!
So
when you're here visiting Lake Placid, stop in the Spa and pick up one of our
Skinceutical SPF's. Remember when you're on the slopes of Whiteface, it's a
higher altitude with a thinner atmosphere which equals stronger UV rays.
Please remember to reapply your sunscreen on that beautiful face of yours!
Thanks
for checking in and have a very merry holiday!
