Summertime and the livin' is easy08/01/2012 80 degrees this afternoon in Lake Placid as this memorable summer continues. There is the threat of some rain/thunderstorms tonight and so the Lake Placid Sinfonietta has decided to move its outdoor concert to St. Agnes School. It's normally held in Mid's Park on Main Street. The Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa is located within minutes by foot from either venue.
PROFESSIONAL GOLF COMING TO THE WHITEFACE CLUB & RESORT The Sunbelt Senior Golf Tour makes a return visit to the Whiteface Club Aug. 28-31. The event begins with a pro-am, with proceeds to benefit the Adirondack Carousel in Saranac Lake. Amateurs will be assigned a touring pro for this team event. It's lots of fun, and you will be up close to some great golf. Talk to our front desk about a stay and play golf package for that time period. Spots are available for the pro-am. Call 518-523-2551 for more info. Pro-am participants will be included in the welcome reception, pro-am draw party and gifts, and the awards festivities after the round. Then watch these guys tee it up for a $5,000 minimum first place check. Tournament spectating is free of charge.
The Sunbelt Tour is a developmental circuit for players 45 years of age and older who are honing their games to qualify for the PGA Tour's Champions Tour. Last year's tournament came down to the 54th and final hole, and saw Javier Sanchez shoot 14 under par to win by a shot. The Whiteface Club course record of 8 under par 63 was set at this tournament last summer.
TAKE A HIKE The number one outdoor activity in the Adirondacks during the spring, summer and fall is hiking. Bar none....this is what many people come here to do. And why not. The 46 Adirondack peaks beckon hikers who want to tackle all levels of physical exertion. The state's highest peak, Mount Marcy, is accessed about 15 minutes from the Mirror Lake Inn. Come prepared for this as it is generally a sun-up to sundown hike. You'll be well over 5,000 feet above sea level when you arrive at the summit.
But the nice thing about the hiking experiences here are their varied nature. About 5 miles from the hotel on Route 86, you'll come upon the trailheads for McKenzie, Moose and Haystack Mountains. There's 14 miles of hiking in this wilderness area. The climb to the summit of Haystack, for instance, is 3.3 miles from the highway and covers about 1,240 vertical feet. If you are here to hike and need some guidance, just stop by the front desk and inquire. If you prefer a more personal experience, we will connect you with Gary Marchuk who handles these kinds of arrangements for the Mirror Lake Inn.
