Skiing and riding in the Adirondacks to begin soon

Whiteface will have a "soft" open Nov. 17-18 with Upper and Lower Valley and Fox. Face Lift will run. Base lodge services available. $25 lift tix. Open 8:30-4.

The mountain will then close until Nov. 23, at which time it will be open for the season.

The word from eyewitnesses at the mountain today is that the snow is good and plentiful.

Snowmaking conditions have been perfect all week allowing for the earlier start.

The Olympic Mountain started making snow earlier this month and made good progress. Crews suspended for a few days when temps warmed last weekend. But now they've been back at it all week, eyeing the day after Thanksgiving for the full-time opening.
