LAKE PLACID – Championship golf returned last week in Lake Placid.
The New York State Senior Women and Super Senior Women Amateur Golf Championships, featuring a field of 112 players, were held at the Whiteface Club and Resort for the 14th time in the venue’s illustrious history.
The events, on August 23-24, were held in purely manicured tournament conditions over the tree-lined course that played to a par of 73 (members par 71) for the two tournaments that were held concurrently. The fifth and 15th holes, usually par fours, were converted to par fives by the New York State Golf Association which administered the competition.
Saranac Lake – Cycle Adirondacks, a bike event created by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), began its second annual tour of the Adirondack Park on August 20 in Hadley-Lake Luzerne. It’ll end there, too. The event brings nearly 400 participants, volunteers, staff and vendors to six different overnight communities and through dozens of other towns during the week-long tour.
Just drive by the AAA Four Diamond Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid during the month of August and one can’t help but be almost mesmerized by the beauty of the resort’s flowers. It’s something that Jill Robinson and her crew of green-thumbed colleagues take great pride in displaying to guests of the Inn, diners at The Cottage Café, and general passersby.
