Adirondacks boasting chamber of commerce winter weather

Happy New Year from the Four Diamond Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa in snowy Lake Placid.

Given the fact that we've picked up about 2.5 feet in recent weeks, we got another 3" last night in town. So the hits keep coming.

With the exception of Martin Luther King weekend later this month and Presidents Week in February, the rest of the season is listed as non-holiday, and that means a few less people on the slopes.

But if skiers are interested, your blogger has put in 2 days recently (Saturday and Tuesday----I needed Sun and Mon to recover!) The conditions are as stellar as you can imagine at Whiteface Mt.

It's mid winter snow conditions and base depths right now. The expert run from the summit, Skyward, is tip top. But for something less up there, Paron's Run was terrific. The trail merges with Excelsior, the 2.5 mile cruise from the top of Little Whiteface to the base. As my daughter would say, it was all packed perfection.

Saturday's temps were up in the 20s and most comfortable. Yesterday, the cold front started making its way to us, so a few visits to the mid-mountain lodge were appropriate. The sun appeared on occasion, and when it did, we spotted massive amounts of natural and man-made schnee on Draper's Drop. Simply tremendous and soft.

Cross country skiing and snow shoeing all over the region is also experiencing its best early-season in years.

The ice on Mirror Lake has not been cleared yet for activities such as skating, hockey, the toboggan chute, or dog sledding. But at the going rate with our weather, that could change in the foreseeable future.
