The name of the wedding location is
appropriate in that both met many years ago as rising alpine skiers in the N.Y.
Ski Educational Foundation at Whiteface Mountain. Andrew, son of Mirror Lake
Inn owners Ed and Lisa Weibrecht, put that training on the 1980 Olympic
mountain to good use as he went on to capture a 2010 Olympic bronze medal in
super G.
When not training and competing with
the U.S. Ski Team, the downhill and super G specialist attends Dartmouth
College.
Denja, daughter of Jay and Gun Rand,
was a teacher and alpine ski coach at the National Sports Academy in Lake
Placid from 2008-2012. She received her Bachelor's degree from the University
of Vermont in 2007 in English and Political Science. Denja is currently
attending graduate school at the State University (N.Y.) at Potsdam where she
is pursuing a Masters degree in Education.
In addition to their own athletic
prowess, Andrew and Denja come from outstanding winter sport lineage. Andrew's
mother, Lisa, was national luge champion in 1977, while Jay Rand was a member
of the 1968 U.S. Olympic ski jumping team.
The couple will reside in Lake
Placid.
