Owners Ed and Lisa Weibrecht have five children of their own so they understand and enjoy the energy and fun that children bring to a vacation experience. Ed and Lisa also know that a vacation with children means plenty of fun family time - as well as a chance to reconnect and refuel as a couple. So, after enjoying a day of adventure in the outdoors, parents have the option of checking into the spa for a massage or enjoying a romantic dinner for two at the Inn's Four Diamond restaurant, The View. Ed and Lisa's goal for families is to provide a child-friendly atmosphere, while offering many opportunities for peace and romance as a couple.
Ed & Lisa greatly enjoy living in Lake Placid and showing their support for the local community throughout the year. A highlight for them is hosting the annual Joy to the Children Benefit at the Mirror Lake Inn. This event brings hundreds of community members together for a delightful evening of food and wine in support of the arts - all courtesy of the Inn. The event has raised over a million dollars since its inception, and all of the proceeds go directly to fund activities for children in the North Country through the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.
The Inn offers many on-site features and amenities that appeal to families. There is a variety of room choices, ranging from several-bedroom suites to classic double rooms, all with views of the lake and surrounding Adirondack High Peaks. Three on-site restaurants offer a variety of fare: great pub food at The Cottage, AAA Four Diamond cuisine at The View, and European-inspired cuisine in the casually chic Täste Bistro. There are indoor and outdoor heated pools along with a full service spa and salon. A state-of-the-art fitness center offers a variety of fitness classes, including seasonal hikes for the family as well as yoga on the dock. Host a memorable Lake Placid family gathering or reunion at the Inn; there are several meeting rooms with unique Adirondack décor and lovely fireplaces, as well as more casual options such as a barbecue with a bonfire on the private lakefront beach.
Spend a Lake Placid family vacation with your children at the Mirror Lake Inn and you'll understand why so many family traditions are born here.
Lake Placid Winter Vacation
Winter activities at the Mirror Lake Inn with your family
For the Inn's owners, Ed and Lisa Weibrecht, winter sports are in their blood. Ed and Lisa's five children grew up on the ski slopes here at Whiteface Mountain. Ed spent many years as a ski instructor and continues to ski often. Lisa, who is an expert downhill skier, was also a competitive luger on the US Team. The Weibrecht's son, Andrew, is currently on the US Alpine Ski Team, and is the first downhill Olympic hopeful to emerge from Lake Placid in quite some time.
For families that do not downhill ski, there are still many other winter activity options in Lake Placid to enjoy. The Inn maintains a charming ice-skating rink and a small hockey rink directly out front on picturesque Mirror Lake. Skate with the kids or enjoy watching from the Inn's lakefront pub, The Cottage. Sip your wine or hot toddy in front of the large picture windows overlooking the lake, while the kids skate till their hearts' content. There is also ice skating on the Olympic Oval, x-c skiing at the Verizon Sports Complex or on many nearby trails, dog sled rides on Mirror Lake, snow shoeing, a ride on the Olympic bobsled, tours of the Olympic Sports venues and more. Come see why Lake Placid is consistently chosen by national publications as one of the best ski towns for non-skiers!
